Trying to create space

New YearI hate New Year resolutions. They are so easy to make. But so difficult to keep.

This is therefore not a New Year resolution. Instead, it is a wish to return to active blogging. I have not written anything in the last 45 days. My output in the last three months would be in single digits.

These are dismal figures for someone who wants to be recognised as an important media blogger.

I have therefore decided that, good or bad, I must return to active blogging. There is so much that is happening in the media space. How can I stay out of it?

I will resume posting articles on print and web journalism. At the same time, I will start concentrating on social media. The focus will be the same: make social media understandable to the layman.

I am sure this is easier said than done. It will need considerable understanding on my part first, before I can share that understanding with others.

Nonetheless, I have decided to take the plunge.

There are three fields that interest me most:

  • One, tracking upgrades on social media sites.
  • Two, making sense of conversations happening on social media platforms; and
  • Three, writing about tools that have been, and are being, developed to understand social media better.

Each field is endless in itself. So, my contribution, at best, will be like adding fresh grains of sand in the rapidly expanding social media desert. Most of these grains will, I am sure, go unnoticed.

But I do hope that a few may be noticed.

Happy New Year!
