Soon, you can say more in tweets

Twitter changed the way the world communicates. The 140-character tweets made you think hard before tweeting a message, an opinion, or a comment. Suddenly, it became possible to say more in few words.

Just when you thought people had learnt to communicate in 140 –characters, Twitter decided to spoil you. One by one, Twitter allowed you to add photographs, videos, vines, opinion polls and even Periscope broadcasts.

Now, it wants to give you even more. It is going to free some space in the 140-character tweet. One count that will stop mattering is @names in replies. While replying to a tweet, you don’t have to edit/shorten/delete words because Twitter will stop counting the characters that are consumed by @names.

Another count that will become redundant is the space that went to indicate media such as photographs, videos etc. This will free some more room for words.

But what should make you even happier is the Twitter decision to allow you to retweet your own tweets. You no longer need to wait for a friend or stranger to retweet your 140-character gem. You can do it yourself.

These changes, Twitter says in a blogpost, will not be available immediately. They are in the process of development and will be rolled out over the coming months.
