Social Media This Week

Find out the exciting developments that happened in the Social Media universe during the
May 19-May 25 week. These developments can change the way you use Social Media.

Find your Linkedin profile rank

Social MediaAll of us want to know who has viewed our profile. Is the HR snooping on us? Is it a placement company trying to browse your profile? Or is it a friend? These are valuable insights and can help you raise your professional standing.

Linkedin has now introduced a new feature. The “How You Rank” tool will now allow you to find out where you stand in relation to others in your network.

Use Google+ to create stories, movies

Google StoriesGoogle+ calls it Auto Awesome. And it surely is. You can now use it to convert your photographs and videos stored on your mobile phone into stories or movies.

Sounds incredible? But this is what Auto Awesome can do. It can weave your photos and videos on your phone, tablet and camera into a story.

All that you need to do is to simply back up your photos and videos to Google+. Says Google: “Auto Awesome will get to work in the background, and you’ll get notified when a story or movie is ready.”

The feature is first being rolled out on Android and the web, and will be introduced on iOS soon.

But you don’t have to wait long. Says Google: “if your photo library is already online, you may already have stories waiting for you. So look for the new app in Google Play, view the full list of improvements on Google+, and enjoy your walks down memory lane.”

Share music more easily on Facebook

Facebook musicIf you live in the US, you need not type your status update on Facebook. The social networking site has now made it possible for you to use your mobile phone to record, and share music, TV and movie information.

How does the new feature work? Explains Facebook: “When writing a status update – if you choose to turn the feature on – you’ll have the option to use your phone’s microphone to identify what song is playing or what show or movie is on TV.”

If you share music, your friends can see a 30-second preview of the song. For TV shows, the story in News Feed will highlight the specific season and episode you’re watching, so you can avoid any spoilers and join in conversations with your friends after you’ve caught up.

Facebook is rolling out this feature on Android and iOS phones in the US currently. The rest of the world has to wait.

Feel more confident about Facebook Privacy Checkup

Your nightmare of sharing some private moments with the wrong audience on Facebook may soon become a thing of the past. Facebook will soon be rolling out a new and expanded privacy checkup tool, which will enable members to review things like who they’re posting to, which apps they use, and the privacy of important information on their profile.

Another privacy change that Facebook has decided to introduce will help new members. The default audience of new members will be set to Friends and not to Public as it used to be.

The first-time members can change their settings later, but this control with a prompt will save them unnecessary embarrassment.
