Social Media This Week

Find out the exciting developments that happened in the Social Media universe in the week that went past (May 5-May 11). These changes can change the way you use Social Media.

New Linkedin features to benefit Indian companies

social media Linkedin has introduced two new features that will benefit Indian companies with global markets.

The first is language preference targeting and the second is personalized page feed. The two solutions have been created for the Company Pages and Showcase Pages, which are used to promote millions of brands on Linkedin.

They will not only help Indian companies but other companies too. According to Linkedin, 67% of their 300 million plus members are outside the US.

With this kind of reach, brands with an audience from around the world can now target their Company Updates in the users’ selected language. “For example, a U.S. based company targeting Portuguese-speaking professionals in Brazil can now share updates in Portuguese with followers who have selected it as their preferred language on LinkedIn, “ explains Linkedin in its announcement.

The personalized page feed, which is the second feature, will give companies the advantage to target users according to regions and preferences. Explains Linkedin: “For instance, if a company targets an update to members in France and another to members in Brazil, each group would only be presented the region specific update.”

2 tie ups that will improve experience

There were two interesting tieups that happened last week. In one, the online giant Amazon tied up with Twitter. The tie up allows Twitter members to add Amazon products to their Cart, without leaving Twitter.

This is how it works. When the Twitter users come across a product that has an Amazon product link, they can reply with the prefix #AmazonCart. The product will be saved in the Amazon cart, and can be bought whenever the member visits Amazon.com.

linkedin-evernote cardIn the second tie up, Linkedin joined hands with Evernote to make it easier for members to connect with business contacts. All that members need to do is to scan a business card using Evernote’s mobile app and then directly connect with this contact on LinkedIn.

Members will be able to view profile photos, job titles and company information posted on LinkedIn on the Evernote app.

Facebook to beef up Video Metrics

Facebook video metricsFacebook is beefing up Page Insights with a new section called Video metrics. This will give greater insights to Facebook members as to how their video has been used.

Among other things, members will get learn information such as “video views, unique video views, the average duration of the video view and audience retention”. They will even know how much of the video was watched. Was it 25%, 50%, 75%, 95% or 100% ?
