10 media schools that are run by media companies

media schoolsThe Times of India was the first major media house to set up a professional media school. It set up the Times School of Journalism in 1985 in New Delhi.

It was almost a decade before another media company — the Indian Express Group — set up the Asian College of Journalism in Bangalore in 1994. The School that was set up under the aegis of the B.D.Goenka Foundation was transferred to Media Development Foundation in 2000.

Among the regional language newspapers, the credit for setting up the first media school goes to Eenadu, which set up the Eenadu Journalism School in Hyderabad.

However, in recent years more and more media companies are setting up their own media schools. Two reasons are assigned for this trend. The first is to train youngsters to meet the immediate staffing needs of the media house; and the second is to create a revenue source.
